FREELANCE ACQUISITIONS EDITOR LITERARY & CULTURAL STUDIES (F/M/D)

We are looking for a passionate US-, Canada-, or UK-based acquisitions editor to join our Language, Literature & Culture Editorial team. You will be responsible for acquiring new publication projects to help us expand our Literary & Cultural Studies portfolio. This is a freelance position with a fixed-term contract from August 1, 2020 until July 31, 2021, with the possibility of renewal thereafter.

Your tasks

  • Strategic development and international alignment of our Literary & Cultural Studies portfolio in close coordination with our Berlin-based Acquisitions Editors for Literary and Cultural Studies
  • Acquisition of publication projects in the fields of English, German, and Cultural Studies with a focus on the North American and UK market
  • Representing De Gruyter at academic conferences in North America and the UK
 

Your profile

  • You have experience in acquiring and/or commissioning book projects
  • A PhD in English, German, Comparative Literature, Cultural Studies or a related field is strongly preferred
  • You possess a lively academic network in the field of literary and/or cultural studies and regularly attend academic conferences in the US, Canada and/or the UK
  • You are intellectually curious with a passion for finding and developing innovative publishing projects
  • You have excellent communication and negotiation skills and a demonstrated interpersonal ability in relations with authors and editors
