Our Publishing | Journals department coordinates the publication of high-quality scientific journals. In your role as Journals Manager, you will be responsible for a portfolio of scientific journals and, together with the publishers, ensure the readers’ needs are met. This position can be filled in Berlin, Boston or Beijing. This job is permanent.

Your tasks


  • Maintaining and developing relations with editors and ensuring the implementation of an agreed editorial policy
  • Close collaboration with product managers to develop key projects (e.g. journal webinars and events)
  • Establishment of journal editorial boards for the journal portfolio
  • Working closely with Director Journals to develop and implement a strategy for a competitive portfolio
  • Improving the publishing strategy according to the requirements of De Gruyter and market requirements
  • Coordination with Journal Editors to ensure smooth running journal titles and optimal copy flow

Your profile


  • Scientific, economic or humanistic academic background or a comparable degree, preferably a Master or Diploma
  • Previous experience managing a portfolio of (ideally interdisciplinary) journal titles
  • Networking and effective collaboration with scientists worldwide
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to question existing assumptions and practices and actively seek solutions
  • Understanding of journal publishing and the metrics required to manage journal targets
  • Buisness fluent in German and English
